by Thiruppathi P., Research Fellow at the Institute for Social and Economic Change & Vice-Chair, Comparative Politics Student Research Committee of IAPSS
On Monday, 26th of August, 2024, at 19:30 IST / 14:00 GMT
Political communication plays an important role in shaping India’s democratic landscape, characterized by its vast diversity and multiple political voices. Indian politics examines the importance of political communication from the perspective of regional parties, often rooted in local issues and cultural identities, which use political communication to articulate regional aspirations, mobilise support, and influence national politics. The effectiveness of their communication strategies, including traditional media, social media and grassroots engagement, significantly affects their electoral success and policy influence. This talk explores how regional parties use political connectivity to address specific local needs, counter the dominance of national parties, and contribute to the diversity of Indian democracy.
