Call for Papers – IAPSS Virtual Academic Convention 2024
“Political Participation”
The Academic Convention will be an event for a global community of young political science students to discuss current issues in politics and political science, and create comprehensive research designs to understand our changing world. It will provide space to share varying epistemological views and approaches to understanding politics. Our selected theme is “Political Participation“.
Conge (1988, p. 247) defines political participation as “individual or collective action at the national or local level that supports or opposes state structures, authorities, and/or decisions regarding allocation of public goods”. Participation is fundamental for democratic governance, for citizens to contribute to shaping policy and exercise their rights, and for leaders to be held accountable for their actions and decisions, both domestic and foreign. Political participation can be examined through a plethora of academic fields, including security, human rights and economic inequality, leading to a better understanding of our societies through social, economic and political lens.
In this vein, IAPSS invites students, early career scholars, activists, and practitioners to participate in the upcoming virtual academic convention on the topic of “Political Participation”. This convention will explore the many aspects of political engagement and their implications for security, governance, and social justice. We invite you to participate and enrich discussions on how political participation can foster change and transformation in an ever complex yet interconnected world.
