Organized by the International Association for Political Science Students (IAPSS)& Takamul Center for Studies and Research
in Marrakech, Morocco
February 18st – February 24th 2018
(Arrival Day: February 17th, Departure Day: February 25th)
The International Association for Political Science Students (IAPSS) herewith calls for applications for its Winter School 2019, jointly organized with Takamul Center for Studies and Research. The destination we have chosen for our event is fascinating – Marrakech, Morocco. Marrakech is one of Morocco’s four Imperial Cities, along with Méknes, Fes and Rabat. With its abundant cultural and historical background, it surely will make the most relevant place to discuss an important youth question concerning the future of MENA region.
This winter school is a perfect opportunity to follow and interpret the events of the last decade that have influenced and brought about political and social changes in the MENA region. At the heart of many of the recent movements for political change have been young people with their aspiration for a different and brighter future. We are going to examine thoroughly the broadened spectrum of youth activism in the region and the relation it has to secularization and islamization by outlining the surge of youth activism and the outcome of the the active involvement of young people in the political process and civic activities. We will examine the prerequisites of active youth societies and the benefits that can be extracted from them. With the help of European and North-African imminent political scientists, we will be looking for answers to some of the following questions:
- Does the youth activism in the region decrease the propensity to violence? ;
- Why do young people in the region emigrate; does the active civic engagement incline them to stay in their home countries?
- Does youth activism imply stronger civic values and increased employability?
- Is civic participation linked to secularization or Islamization?
Apply before December 18th, 2018.
