IAPSS Research Seminar 2025
“Political Participation”
January 25-26, 2025
The International Association for Political Science Student has launched an open call for papers for its upcoming research seminar on the topic of “Political Participation“. The seminar will be an event for a select cohort of young political science students to discuss current issues in politics and political science, and create comprehensive research designs to understand our changing world. It will provide space to share varying epistemological views and approaches to understanding politics. The number of attendees for general viewing is unlimited, but seats for professional feedback on a paper of your choice will be limited to 20. The seminar will take place exclusively virtually on January 25-26, 2025.
Conge (1988, p. 247) defines political participation as “individual or collective action at the national or local level that supports or opposes state structures, authorities, and/or decisions regarding allocation of public goods”. Participation is fundamental for democratic governance, for citizens to contribute to shaping policy and exercise their rights, and for leaders to be held accountable for their actions and decisions, both domestic and foreign. Political participation can be examined through a plethora of academic fields, including security, human rights and economic inequality, leading to a better understanding of our societies through social, economic and political lens.
In this vein, IAPSS invites students and early career scholars to participate in the upcoming research seminar on the topic of “Political Participation”. This convention will explore the many aspects of political engagement and their implications for security, governance, and social justice. We invite you to participate and enrich discussions on how political participation can foster change and transformation in an ever complex yet interconnected world.
