Thanks to the generous offer by the Federica Weblearning Center, which, in cooperation with the International Political Science Association (IPSA), organizes the second edition of the IPSA Summer School (22—26 September 2019, Capri Island, Naples, Italy), the International Association for Political Science Students (IAPSS) is launching a Call for Applications, open until 1 May 2019, for a limited number of registration fee waivers for participation at the IPSA Summer School 2019.

This summer school is an excellent opportunity to receive in-depth qualitative training in concept building, using the unique approach to concept building known as ‘Hyperpolitics’. In addition, it unfolds in an innovative format, consisting of, first, the undertaking of a MOOC (massive online open course) on Political Concepts, and followed by the in-person sessions in late September, focusing on the participants’ own research projects.

In cooperation with the Federica Center, IAPSS aims to provide a limited number[1] of registration fee waivers (in the value of 150-250 €)[2] to outstanding junior researchers[3] who demonstrate particular interest in concept-building, motivation and commitment to this summer school, and coherent research ideas they can work within its course.

To this end, the applicants are required to provide:

  1. A curriculum vitae, focusing on the academic experience of the applicant;
  2. A max. 2-page motivation letter detailing the reasons for interest in this summer school and the need for the Federica Center—IAPSS registration fee waiver to enable participation at it;
  3. A declaration that the applicant possesses sufficient funds to cover travels from his/her location to Capri Island as well as accommodation on Capri Island for the duration of the summer school.[4]

All three documents are to be sent by 1 May 2019 – find the application form below!

An individual IAPSS membership is required from all successful applicants, as well as an honest declaration of the seriousness of their commitment to the summer school and of their enrollment to the IPSA MOOC via the edX platform. Recipients of the Federica—IAPSS registration fee waivers are expected to agree with being featured in promotional material of IAPSS and/or the Federica Center.

The selection process will consist of an in-depth screening of application materials. Those coming close to being selected as registration fee waiver recipients will be put on a reserve list. Those accepted will be expected to provide a binding confirmation of attendance by the deadline stipulated by IAPSS.

*Please note that the evaluation of applications for the Federica Center—IAPSS registration fee waivers might not be completed before the general deadline for applications to the Summer School, which is 5 May 2019. Applicants who wish to secure their place regardless of whether they receive the Federica Center—IAPSS fee waiver are advised to apply through the general Call as well, and if they are accepted, register for the Summer School. In case the applicant receives one of the Federica Center—IAPSS fee waivers, the Federica Center will reimburse the registration fee waiver for the summer school.*

Please do not hesitate to contact us via mooc@iapss.org in case of further questions or inquiries. We look forward to your applications!
